CAMP 2012 - 30 JULY TO 5 AUGUST

CAMP REPORT 2011

temporary stabling at camp Another year and another excellent summer camp – maybe one of the best to date.
2011 was the 18th year that EMDG have held their summer camp on the Osberton Estate by kind permission of Mr. Foljambe, President of the club, without whose continual support and generosity this event would not be possible.
Thanks must also be given to Mark Cavell and his family who never seem to tire of us invading their peace and quiet and who give the EMDG committee and members a warm and friendly welcome each year and provide so much help and assistance throughout the week.
We understand Mark has asked Mudford’s to leave the marquee in place until next year so that he can practise his shimmy up the tent pole through winter and restore his male pride after a somewhat humiliating defeat by Belinda – well done Belinda on behalf of all the female members of the committee.
It seemed like all our members thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the camp committee would like to thank them for being a very jolly and amenable bunch who made camp a pleasure to run this year.
This year, as always we have enjoyed some excellent instruction from some very highly qualified people with a vast amount of experience and knowledge and between them they help make camp an educational and enjoyable experience for us all.
Thanks go to the following instructors for sharing some of their knowledge and enthusiasm during the week for disciplines including dressage, flat work & poles, gridwork, show jumping, cross country and water schooling.
This years instructors included:
Sonia Berry
Ken Rogerson
Mark Cavell
Anne Varley
Steph Cooper
Alwyn Varley
Keeva Fox
Emma Lee
Julia Hardy
Sam York
Jill Liggins
A Dressage Competition was held towards the end of the week as usual for members to demonstrate what they had learned through the week. This years winners were P13 – Fiona McDonald and P24 – Steph Jenkins.
In the evening an array of entertainment /events and talks were arranged by the committee throughout the week including Veterinary (Angjerd Skeie – Senior Vet at Minster Vets), Horse Physio (Ania Worthington), Horse Whisperer (Guy Robertson), karaoke and the much loved Bingo.
The end of another years camp was marked by the usual party at the Mill on Saturday night with a Disco, good food and a variety of good wines and beers. A prize was given to the most improved ‘jumping’ rider at camp this year, donated by Cindy Marshall-Day and won by Jo Woolley.

A reminder to all members wishing to attend next years camp that they must get their applications in as early as possible following the opening date and further demonstrate that they have volunteered their help and assistance at no fewer than one of the many EMDG events throughout the coming year.
We have a limited number of stables available and we therefore have to prioritise applications.
Next year Mark Cavell will not be taking bookings for stabling at his yard directly from members – instead he will let us know how many stables he has available and these will be allocated through the committee via the normal application process.
No allocated stables can be ‘sold’ to friends – any cancellation or transfer of stables must be directed through the committee in order to maintain the fairness of the system for all our members.
For 2012 a non refundable deposit of £50.00 will be requested with each application and all cheques will be cashed upon receipt.
Lucie Barras was again on site during the week taking photographs – to view and order any photos please visit her web site: www.luciebarrassphotography.co.uk or follow the link on the EMDG web site.
Any suggestions to improve the camp for 2012 will be welcomed via the camp web site.
